Determined to beat Haruo so she can go out with him, Hidaka trains hard to refine her skills under the watchful eye of her new gamer friend, Nikotama.
Summary[]
Walking home from a shopping trip with his mother, Haruo talks with her about Akira. Afterward, Kōtarō watches Haruo refine his arcade skills as Guile from SF cheers him on.
A letter of challenge left by Haruo for Koharu at an arcade center bulletin board. A flashback showing how Nikotama first meets with Koharu and has her prep herself for the upcoming challenge. Following Felicia's instructions, Koharu goes to the Game Shop Iguana to partake in some Night Gaming. She's introduced to the gamers there all of whom have high double-digit consecutive wins under their belts.
On the day of the challenge, Haruo and Koharu face off against each other in Samurai Showdown II, KOF '95, and finally Night Warriors: Dark Stalkers' Revenge. The first person to win two games will be the winner. Once that is all settled, they start playing the first game. Koharu manages to win the game of SS II and while the people cheering on Koharu are elated, Nikotama senses that something is amiss. In the match of KOF '95, Haruo is astonished that Koharu is not using an all-female cast. Although the initial start of the game is in Koharu's favor, Haruo turns the tables on her and wins. During the match, Nikotama realizes what Koharu lacks, since she's playing to win, while Haruo plays for fun. With a tie between the two gamers, the tiebreaker Night Warriors: Dark Stalkers' Revenge will settle it all.
Acting as moral support, Kōtarō stays by Haruo's side, while Nikotama gives her own moral support to Koharu. During the fight, Guile praises Haruo for his diligence and selfless acts toward his mother as he continues his match against Haruo. In the end, Haruo wins the match and when he approaches Koharu about winning, she throws a tantrum and her friends from the Night Gaming chase after Haruo.
While walking home, the forlorn and disconcerted Koharu abash by her loss against Haruo, is still resolved to win his heart.
At an arcade center, Haruo tries his hand at the shooting game Don Pachi, when he was done playing the game, he runs into Akira's sister, Makoto.
